Introducing Airfield Primary Academy

A brand new primary school opening in Haywood Village, Weston-super-Mare for September 2026. Located on the former Weston Airfield site, Airfield Primary Academy will serve the communities of Haywood Village and the Parklands developments.

Location & Catchment

The new school will be located on the former Weston Airfield site, between Haywood Village Academy and the Helicopter Museum.

It will cater for pupils from across the growing 6,500-home Haywood Village and Parklands developments. The admission arrangement will define a catchment area of Haywood Village which will be included in the over-subscription criteria.

School Size

Airfield Primary Academy will be a growing school, opening initially with 30 pupils in reception and increasing to a total of 630 students when full.

There will also be a 108-place nursery, offering an all-year-round provision for children aged 2-4.

Outside Space

The school will feature a variety of outdoor spaces designed to support both learning and play. Plans include dedicated nature areas to encourage outdoor exploration, as well as grass and all-weather pitches for year-round sports and activities.

There will also be designated sports facilities that will be available for shared community use, helping to create a hub for local events, clubs, and recreational activities.

A Brand New Building

The design of Airfield Primary Academy will be similar to Haywood Village Academy, although it will be larger in size. It will also feature a large nursery with multiple rooms and have its own kitchen and separate access from the school.

Common Questions

Is the school part of a trust?

Yes, the new school will be run by the Cabot Learning Federation (CLF) – a multi-academy trust with a strong track record of school delivery and improvement in the Weston area. It already runs secondary academies Hans Price, Broadoak and the newly-built Winterstoke Hundred, as well as primaries Uphill Village, Haywood Village and Herons’ Moor.

All six of those schools are currently rated ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ by Ofsted.
CLF Values

As a school is setting up, how can we be sure that students will get the same quality of education?

The quality of educational provision is closely monitored and subject to checks and quality assurance processes, from within the academy and the wider federation, as well as from other external bodies.

What will the SEN provision be like?

Airfield Primary Academy will be an inclusive, mainstream school providing an education with high aspirations for all learners. The school will recognise that every child is unique, and their personalities and skills reflect this. The school will believe in every child who will attend our school and are resolute in our ambitions for their achievement.

What will the start and finish times be?

Times of the day have not yet been finalised, but the likelihood will be that school will start sometime between 8.30am and 8.50am, ending between 3pm and 3.30pm.

Can I visit the new school to have a look around?

Yes – but not yet. Once the development is complete, we’ll be holding open days for members of the community. We’ll share details of this in due course.

When will staff be recruited for the new school?

The expectation is that a Principal will be appointed at the beginning of 2026. Further roles – both teaching and non-teaching positions – will be filled in throughout 2026, ready for a September opening.

Vacancies will be advertised by the CLF. Anyone interested in applying for a position should visit the CLF careers site.
