We pride ourselves on all of our achievements at Airfield Primary Academy. Our pride in our school extends from our school uniform. A school uniform provides many benefits linked to safeguarding, a sense of belonging in our community, reduced pressure for clothing decisions in the morning, reduced costs, pride in personal appearance and how this extends to pupils’ pride in their environment and work. Our policy has been developed in accordance with guidance from Department for Education.
We expect and appreciate parental cooperation in ensuring that all children come to school dressed appropriately. By wearing the school uniform, children and families are supporting school policies and this sends an important message to children around respecting and adhering to rules and expectations.

The uniform:
- Navy blue crew neck sweatshirt/ jumper/cardigan
- Navy polo shirt (embroidered school logo is optional but preferred)
- Grey trousers/shorts, pinafore dress or skirt, blue checked (Gingham) summer dress
- Grey or navy socks or grey or navy tights.
- Suitable black footwear – shoes or trainers (not high boots) – See section 5.
- Reception & Key Stage 1: Navy blue book bag (large bags /satchels will not be accepted due to storage limitations).
- Children in Reception to bring PE kits and change in school.
P.E kit:
- Navy blue T-shirt and plain shorts: navy shorts for PE
- Pupils can wear short leggings: navy for PE
- Navy tracksuit/legging trousers can also be worn instead of shorts
- Sports trainers are needed for PE
- A labelled navy blue drawstring bag
- Swimming: Close fitting swimwear: trunks or single piece costume) and a swim-cap.
- Long hair will need to be ‘tied up’ with the use of hairbands.
Daily Expectations:
- It is expected that school uniform will be worn daily unless parents have provided notice to the school for reasonable exemptions.
- The school will contact families to ensure the policy is followed, and should it be required, parents should expect to be contacted in the school day to bring in correct uniform. Should a child attend school in the incorrect uniform, a further option the school may choose is to provide the correct school uniform for the child to change into for the duration of the school day.
- Where the school believes there is deliberate disregard for the school policy by pupils, this may result in behavioural consequences outlined in the behaviour policy.
- All clothing and bags should be clearly marked with a child’s name.
- Pupils may be exempt from wearing school uniform if the school deems it appropriate to wear more suitable clothing e.g. outdoor clothing for forest school activities. The school will provide parents notice of a change to uniform.
- On school trips, unless the school states otherwise, it will be expected that the pupils will wear a school logo jumper or polo shirt.
- The school will provide a main supplier for the uniform, and this can be signposted from the school’s website. Second-hand uniform is available on request from the school office.
- Hair & Accessories: The school recognises that pupils’ hair is personal to them. The school welcomes families to support their child to have an individual hair style whilst considering its appropriateness to the learning environment. This includes appropriate hair accessories.
- Jewellery: Earrings can be stud earrings only and will need to be covered/taped over for PE. Necklaces can be worn but should be underneath clothing and removed for PE. Oversize necklaces should not be worn. Children should not be wearing rings to school.
- Make-up: No make-up is permissible in school. This included painted and artificial nails, artificial eyewear e.g. eyelash extensions.
- Watches: Wrist watches can be worn to school. Where these watches have the capability to interact and receive notifications, these settings should be switched off in school day hours 8:45 – 3:20
- We ask all children in EYFS and KS1 to have a school bookbag (available from NK Sports).
- Pupil phones should not be brought into school.
